It's a GIRL!!! I knew it, but so did Aunty Kylie, Alli & Bev! As well as many many nub theorists online (amazing)!
Dennis & I had our 18 week ultrasound this morning. I have been anxious and on edge, waiting for this appointment all week. I was so excited to see the baby and find out the gender.
The ultrasound went well, baby is doing well.
Our ultrasound tech was ok, but not overly helpful or engaged with us. She explained everything that she saw, which I appreciated. She was thorough, the scan took about an hour. Our tech asked me to go to the bathroom, and get up 3 times so that she could reassess the baby in a different position.
She didnt officially announce the babies gender, I shouldn't have said anything, but I mentioned that I thought I saw girl parts. She concurred that she too thinks that she saw girl parts but likes to confirm multiple times before saying anything.
Dennis is scared, and was quietly panicking. He says that he doesnt know what to do with a girl, but I know that he will be a wonderful Daddy.
I drove Dennis to work today. On our drive, our wedding song came on the radio. It was really beautiful and special. I very rarely hear it anymore, so it was a nice moment. I took the day off to enjoy my baby and buy some cutsey gender specific items. I may have gone a bit overboard on the baby budget. I bought a fancy chair for way too much money. Ive wanted it for months, and bit the bullet. It's so comfortable and can be used in the basement, with our sectional when we are done with it in the nursery. Sorry Den!
After our ultrasound we were asked to meet with the doctor in a separate meeting room. We were both concerned, as I had previously asked the tech if we meet with the doctor or a nurse after, and she said no. The radiologist ho met with us indicated that I may have placenta previa, and that my placenta is anterior (in the front) and over my cervix by about 3cm. 3cm is quite a lot, and if it is truly over 3cm it is likely not to move that much, however, as my uterus grows the distance should decrease. The doctor didnt seem convinced that the 3cm was accurate, she indicated that the cervix was contracted and smaller, so not a true indication, and 3cm is more exaggerated therefore. We will go back for a followup ultrasound on April 30th. I hope and trust that my body, and placenta will shift within the coming weeks. It was alarming for me, and scary that something is wrong, everything has been going so well; this is entirely out of my control. If I do have placenta previa there are risks such as bleeding, preterm labour, and necessary birth by caesarian section. This is scary for me, but the main thing is that baby is well.
This week I have started to feel the baby girl! With an anterior placenta people tend to feel the baby less, and maybe later than women with posterior placentas. It's really cool to feel her. When I first felt her it felt like someone tapping internally under my skin (well, that's what is happening kind of) and I felt her first while lying on my side. It's reassuring and beautiful to feel her. So real!
