To start off, I went to the lab at 7am this morning, and sat around a bunch of old farts for 45 minutes. Im so glad I dont work with old people any more! I thought it would be quicker, as I arrived before they even opened but already there was a line up of 7 people, I was lucky number 8; but they dont start taking tests until 7:20am. I sat anxiously waiting to be called.
I was informed from the lab that the fertility clinic and my GP would receive the test results around 11am-12pm. I phoned my GP and the clinic at 12pm, they informed me that they hadn't received anything yet. I called the lab, waited on hold for 20 minutes to be informed that they hadn't yet processed the blood-work and there was no requisition to fax it anywhere (even though I had confirmed with the lab where to fax/send to at 7am) grrr. The lab informed me that they would fax off the blood-work results within the next 2 hours. I phoned the clinic and the doctor again at 3pm, the doctor confirmed that they had received the fax, however the fertility clinic indicated that they hadnt received the fax and wouldn't be calling until tomorrow.
I made a plan to go to the walk-in clinic to get the test results as I was anxious to receive them today. I went to the walk in clinic and was informed that I would have to wait 45 minutes, so I went grocery shopping across the street at Walmart. Meanwhile, while shopping I received a phone call from the clinic at 4:38pm, my phone was on vibrate, since I wasn't expecting a call (I carried my phone with me all day with the ringer on expecting a phone call) so it was uncanny to receive a call at the end of the day when I wasn't expecting it. Tess from the clinic left a message asking me to call her back (regarding the test results). I phoned her back less than 10 minutes later, but only got the voicemail. Dang!
After my grocery shopping (quinoa and chicken!) I went to the clinic and walked right into the doctors office. The walk in doctor I saw was sour and not at all warm. She might as well have indicated to me that the test was negative by the look on her face, and her body-language. Had I not tested early she really would have thrown me off by her demeanour. I knew better! Anyway, she indicated to me that the HCG Beta test came back positive! I asked her to interpret the number, 591, however, the doctor indicated that since she doesn't have another test to compare it to she wasn't able to give a baseline. Ya right! Please see the reference chart below (thanks to google) showing that Im right on track! She suggested that I test again on Friday to see if the levels rise; within 48 hours they expect the HCG level to increase and approximately double. She gave me a lab requisition to have the Beta blood work again on Friday (goody, I get to go back to the old foggy lab!). I have an appointment with my regular GP, Dr Subramanian (I love this guy) on Friday afternoon, I booked this appointment last week, he will be much more friendly and informative.
One good thing with the bitchy walk in doc was that she provided me with a referral to my dear friend Steph's (YAY STEPH! <3) OBGYN, Dr Lejour at the South Calgary Health Centre. I haven't yet been able to secure a midwife, so I am being proactive and potentially getting both!
Beta 591
Interpretation of my cycle and this chart.
With IVF my cycle has been intentionally manipulated.
Based on an online calculator, from my egg retrieval date my LMP (last menstrual period) would have been approximately November 8th, which makes today, December 10th, 32 days since my last menstrual period (not really but we'll just say that since the drugs alter the cycle dramatically). Based on the date of conception, our IVF conception date was November 27th, that puts us, today, at 13 days from Conception. My numbers look a bit high in comparison to the conception date.
Either way, I think the numbers look good and right on track!
Sorry, Im rambling a bit, it's good for my record keeping, reference and to make sense of this!
Based on this cart (above) my ovulation date (considered my egg retrieval date) was November 20th, which brings us, today (Dec 10) to 20 days post ovulation. So in comparison to the medium on this chart Im a little lower, however, on the above chart I was rated as higher. So we'll see... Whats most important is if the HCG is doubling, so Ill report again on Friday morning. Fingers crossed, but I have faith, and hope!
According to this chart, below, Im higher than average (13 days after conception, Im at 591, the chart is 5-430 for 14 days after conception).
Own it, baby!
