25 weeks, and 4 days. May 8, 2015

This week our baby girl is about the size of a cauliflower, 13.6-14.8 inches long and 1.5-2.5 lbs.
Everything is going really well, still for me and babe. I feel baby a lot more now! Sometimes I feel startled by her kicks and jabs but I love it! It's so amazing knowing that we have a real, live baby girl inside of me! I was even able to capture her movements on a video (see below). I think it's amazing! Dennis is a bit weirded out by my belly and the movements, I think he will get used to it (I hope so).

Today Dennis & I saw one of our midwives, Alisha for our regular check up. Baby's heart beat sounds great about 145 beats per minute, my blood pressure is perfect/normal, and so is my weight gain (although I feel insecure about the weight I have gained so far and the lack of control I seem to have over it). I had my gestational diabetes test earlier this week as well as blood work, all of which came back normal as well. I am grateful that the gestational diabetes was accurate, and negative. Often the glucose test will report a false positive, if so they send women for a more thorough 3 hour blood test at the lab. Alisha reported to us that my placenta previa is 5cm covering my cervix; she has sent a referral in for an OBGYN to take me on from the South Calgary Health Hospital. An OBGYN will be assigned to us, we will continue to see both an OBGYN as well as our midwives. Midwives can and will stay involved in our care, and the care of our daughter which I am so grateful for. If we end up having a cesarian both the OB and the midwives will be present and involved (midwives will take over once baby is born). If the placenta previa resolves the OB will step aside and midwives will take on everything again. Alisha is confident that there is time for the placenta to move and indicated that they typically see changes to and with the previa between 28-32 weeks. Fingers crossed! Our next ultrasound is May 26th, at 28 weeks pregnant so we should be able to tell if the previa has moved at all by that point. If there is a partial previa I will be able to have a vaginal birth (less than 3 cm). Our next midwife appointment is May 28th, at which time we can follow up more accurately on the status of the previa.

Dennis & I attended our first prenatal class this week, with Healthy Birth Choices the class runs Mondays 7-9:30pm (late for me), for 7 weeks plus about 2 hours of homework through E learning/ week. Dennis & I enjoyed our first class! The principles and coaching in the class are very natural and holistic centered, which I love, but it makes me a bit sad because we may have to have a cesarian.

Baby Moves!

Nasty orange glucose test for gestational diabetes test. You drink this and then wait at the lab for an hour, then give bloodwork to see how your body processes the overload of sugar.
